Looking for vegan cruelty free makeup and want to know what that actually means? Well in today’s post we will cover all this in detail so you can make wise decisions on purchasing vegan cruelty free makeup to stay in line with your journey as a vegan.
So Why isn’t most make up vegan?
The reason why most makeup isn’t vegan is because it’s tested on animals. Companies use bunnies, mice, monkeys, and other animals to test their makeup on to see if the animals get any bad reactions. Basically, they do this to determine whether the product is safe for humans or not.
If an animal gets a reaction then the company can conclude that most likely the product would cause an issue for humans.
If a cosmetic doesn’t have the cruelty free bunny symbol on it, or if it doesn’t state somewhere “not tested on animals,” then 99% of the time the product was in fact tested on animals.
Just Because It’s Cruelty Free Doesn’t Mean It’s Vegan
The amazing thing about cosmetics now is that so many companies are finding alternative ways to test their products that doesn’t require abusing or testing on animals.
One thing to look out for though- just because a product has the cruelty free symbol or the words “not tested on animals” on it, that doesn’t mean that it’s vegan.
You also have to look at the ingredients, because sometimes animal products such as lanolin, tallow, gelatin, carmine, etc are in the product.
The only way to tell right away if a product is vegan is to look for the cruelty free symbol and the green V symbol for vegan as well.
