10 Reasons to Ditch Dairy

One of the hardest things for people to give up when they go vegan is dairy products, especially cheese.

Most people think that dairy is entirely natural for human beings to drink and that cows just produce milk for us to take.

This is far from the truth.

Here are truths about dairy and why you should finally ditch dairy from your diet.

These 10 reasons should be more than enough for you to re-consider your consumption of milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, or any other dairy product.


  1. Dairy Is Incredibly Cruel to Mothers

All dairy comes from a mother. Just like humans, cows only lactate when they are pregnant.

In fact cows do not randomly provide milk all year round – they only do so once they give birth.

Almost all dairy cows are artificially inseminated. This means that a farmer sticks his hand up the female cow’s reproductive system and injects bull semen into her. The tool that the farmers use to do this is called a “rape rack.” That should say enough on its own.

After 9 months of carrying a baby calf inside of her, once the mother finally gives birth, the calf is immediately taken away from her. Instead of letting the calf drink the milk, humans take the milk instead.

Dairy was never meant for humans to drink – the only reason it was ever produced in the first place is for calves. Unless you are a baby calf, it’s time for you to ditch dairy.

Furthermore, mother cows are put through this terrible process for 4 years. After being artificially inseminated 4 times, and after giving birth to 4 beautiful babies that were all taken away from her (which causes her immense heartbreak and distress), the female cow is then taken to the slaughterhouse to be turned into ground beef.

The dairy industry is technically still a part of the meat industry as you can see.

Cows can live for more than 20 years naturally, but they are so overworked that as soon as their milk production declines, they are slaughtered.

Female cows are also pumped full of hormones and chemicals to make them produce way more milk than they ever naturally would.


  1. The Dairy Industry is The Veal Industry

In case you didn’t know, veal comes from baby calves that are literally just days old.

Once the calves are taken away from the mothers right after birth, they are placed in small “veal crates” where they are chained up so they can’t even take a step. This is done so that they don’t develop any muscles, which is why veal is known for being so tender.

The veal industry would not exist without the dairy industry.

The only reason that veal exists is because veal is a by-product of the dairy industry.

The dairy industry will keep the female cows to become future dairy cows, but all of the male calves get murdered after a couple short weeks so people can eat them.


  1. There’s Pus in Milk

Dairy contains pus. The word pus is gross enough on its own to ditch dairy, but in case you need more clarification, here is the exact definition of pus: “a thick, opaque, usually yellowish-white, fluid matter that is formed as part of an inflammatory response, during a bacterial or fungal infection.

The dairy industry knows how disturbing pus is, so they refer to this word as “somatic cells.” Each and every single milliliter of milk can have up to 1,000,000 cells. Think about that for a second – do you really want to be drinking something that has 1 million pus cells per milliliter?

You might say to yourself “but it’s pasteurized!” Pasteurization does not get rid of pus. All it does is pasteurize the pus.


  1. Dairy Can Cause Cancer

Dairy contains a dangerous protein in it called casein. Here’s a quote by Dr. T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study, which sums casein up:

Casein, which makes up 87% of cow’s milk protein, is the most relevant cancer promoter ever discovered.”

This protein is a carcinogenic that has been thoroughly studied by many different scientists. Scientists have literally been able to turn cancer on and off simply by increasing or decreasing the amount of casein in the body.


  1. Dairy Causes Osteoporosis

Ever since we were children, we’ve heard the phrase “you need to drink milk for strong bones!” This is one of the biggest myths out there. Yes, it’s true that dairy contains calcium.

However, dairy is extremely acidic. Our bodies are naturally alkaline, so when we consume acidic food, our body has to work to make those foods alkaline.

When you consume dairy, your body has to leach minerals out of your bones (specifically calcium) in order to digest them. Dairy doesn’t provide us with calcium or prevent osteoporosis at all, it literally does the opposite.

If you do some research, you will find that the countries with the highest rates of milk consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis, while the countries with the lowest rates of milk consumption have barely any cases of osteoporosis.

This is not a coincidence.


  1. Diary Contains Harmful Hormones

When you consume dairy, you consume hormones. These hormones are not good for us. Many children who consume high amounts of dairy are reaching puberty at much earlier stages. Girls are developing breasts and getting their periods way younger than they should, which has been directly linked to high consumption of dairy products.

The hormones in dairy have also been directly linked to breast cancer.

Here is a great quote from the founding director of knowbreastcancer.net, Susan Wadia-Ells:

It appears that when individuals do not have the correct enzymes to metabolize many of the hormones naturally found in any type of cow’s milk, a glass of milk can flood the body with excess estrogen. This raises the risk of developing or accelerating the growth of existing breast cancer.”

The main hormone that is found in dairy products is IGF-1, also known as “Miracle-Gro” for cancer cells. These hormones aren’t only linked to breast cancer. They can also cause prostate, ovarian, and testicular cancer.


  1. It’s Addicting

If you find yourself struggling to ditch dairy from your diet, that might be due to the fact that it’s addicting.

All dairy, especially cheese, contains a protein in it called casomorphins. This is basically a form of morphine, hence the name. These opiate-like substances produce a feeling of euphoria in your brain, making you physically crave dairy and want to eat more of it.

The best way to break this addictive cycle is to ditch dairy out of your diet entirely.


  1. Dairy is Full of saturated fat and cholesterol

If you even remotely care about your health, you should know how terrible dairy is for it. Dairy is full of both saturated fat and cholesterol. Both of these things have been known to cause atherosclerosis. This leads to blocked arteries, high blood pressure, and heart disease.


  1. Dairy Causes Acne

If you struggle with acne, try cutting out dairy from your diet just for 1 month. I guarantee you will see significant results and improvements in your skin.

The hormones in dairy have been directly linked to acne on your face, chest, and back.

These growth hormones clog your pores and cause acne, eczema, and dermatitis.

The hormones in dairy also trigger inflammation in the body. This causes redness and swelling, especially on your face.

When you consume lots of dairy, your body produces more sebum (oil) than it should. This creates the perfect breeding ground for the P. Acnes bacteria. Similar to what the name suggests, this bacteria feeds on sebum and causes acne.


  1. You are Not a Baby Cow!

If all the above reasons didn’t convince you to ditch dairy, ask yourself this question: “are you a baby cow?”

The answer of course is no.

Cow’s milk was made for baby cows, just like giraffe milk is made for baby giraffes, and rat milk is made for rats.

You were weaned off your mother’s breast milk when you were a baby, so why did you switch to drinking breast milk from another species? Would you go up to a cow’s udders and suck on the teats? If the thought of that disgusts you, you shouldn’t be drinking milk.

It is 2018 and there are now more dairy-free alternatives than there ever was before. You are not missing out in the slightest by giving up dairy.

There are so many non-dairy milks available including rice, soy, hemp, almond, pea, coconut, cashew, flax, and hazelnut milk.

There are also many companies that offer dairy-free cheese, sour cream, ice cream, cream cheese, vegan butter, vegan yogurts, and so much more.

There is a vegan alternative to every single dairy product that exists.

Most of us have been heavily brainwashed by the dairy industry, but once you open your mind and realize the truth, it’s impossible to ignore.
